5th Class of the PMAP KM Course for HR Executives

People Management Association of the Philippines or PMAP again partnered with CCLFI for its annual KM Course for HR Executives. This whole-day KM training aims to provide participants with understanding and appreciation of KM and organizational learning, and initial practice in a few KM tools. At the end of the course, the HR executives receive several "take homes": Rapid KM Assessment© and Capability Assessment© tools, Quick Menu of KM Prescriptions©, templates for applying the Three-Way Key©, a structured list of KM tools for organizational learning, and a free copy of the e-book "99 Paradigm Shifts for Survival in the Global Knowledge Economy: a Knowledge Management Reader.

Partnership with AIM to Co-Develop an e-Manual on Post-Project Knowledge Capture

CCLFI partnered with the Asian Institute of Management's TeaM Energy Center for Bridging Societal Divides to co-develop an e-manual on Post-Project Knowledge Capture. It will be tested in one of AIM's projects in Nueva Vizcaya. The two organizations agreed to jointly copyright the resulting publication, and then to give it freely to the development community.

KM for Project Managers

The Project Management Institute - Philippine Chapter - invited CCLFI to give their members a session on KM adapted for project managers. Apin observed that cross-project learning is not given much attention in the Project Management Book of Knowledge. He showed the participants various KM tools that project managers can use.

Wellness and KM for the Lopez Group

Lopez Lifelong Wellness is a program of the Lopez Group of companies. Last March 25, 2009 they organized a half-day Wellness Forum on Brain Power and Knowledge Management, where AIM Professor Eduardo Morato gave a lecture on brain power, and Apin gave a lecture on KM and wellness.

Emerging Trends in High-Value Outsourcing

The newly-created department (formerly the Commission on Information and Communications Technology or CICT) sponsored a Conference on SSME: Towards Philippine Global Competitiveness in Offshoring and Outsourcing last August 5-8, 2008. SSME or Service Science, Management and Engineering is a new discipline promoted by IBM, riding on the global wave of knowledge-based services. Apin Talisayon gave a talk on "Exploring SSME Directions" where he outlined emerging trends in high-value outsourcing.

KM Course for HR Executives

CCLFI was invited by the PMAP or People Management Association of the Philippines, formerly Personnel Management Association of the Philippines, to provide a one-day KM Course for HR Executives again last July 25, 2008. The previous class was held on October 4, 2007 despite just having delivered it last April 17, 2007. CCLFI had been giving this course for PMAP once every year since February 2003.

KM Team Formation at NCRFW
June 11-12, 2008, National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women

Apin Talisayon and Leslie Gopalan co-facilitated KM Team Formation Workshop #1 for the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women last June 11-12, 2008 in Sulo Hotel, Quezon City. Twenty team members were introduced to learning organizations, organizational brain, personal learning mode, MBTI for optimum team performance, divergent-convergent brainstorming, among others. Team members made a first pass of the KM Teams Vision, Values and Competencies, as well as the organization's target KM/LO competencies based on results of the LO Diagnostics and formulated component plans along four areas: people, process, technology and stakeholder relationships.

Apin Talisayon and Jasmin Suministrado presented the new development framework called "Knowledge for Poverty Alleviation" to development funders and workers during the World Bank-sponsored Panibagong Paraan last April 9, 2008 from 4:30 in the afternoon to 7:30 in the evening. In partnership with the Peace and Equity Foundation, the presentation culminated in the launching of the e-book entitled "Community Wealth Rediscovered: Knowledge for Poverty Alleviation" which presented the KPA and its applications in six successful development projects funded by the PEF.

The briefing was supported by the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) and the Philippine Computer Society, and sponsored by SAP and SigmaSoft Solutions.

Executive Forum on Natural Resource Knowledge Management

Apin gave a lecture on "Knowledge: the New Wealth of Nations" at SEARCA in Los Banos during the 4th Executive Forum on Natural Resource Management, with its 2007 theme of "Natural Resources Knowledge Management in Southeast Asia". Participants came from the Philippines as well as from Kasetsart University, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, University of Copenhagen in Denmark, Network of European Agricultural Universities and Scientific Complexes Related with Agricultural Development, Montpellier SupAgro in France, University of Lampung in Indonesia, the Royal University of Agriculture in Cambodia, and some grantees of the Small Grants Programme for Operations to Promote Tropical Forestry (SGPPTF) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Talk on Organizational Learning

Apin made a presentation on "Setting Up a Living, Learning Organizational Brain" at the PMAP annual convention held in Cebu City last September 26-28, 2007. He distributed a free copy of the e-book to more than 50 participants who attended his session. He attended the "World Cafe" process held on the last day of the convention.

KM briefing for NEDA

CCLFI provided two half-day KM briefings for (a) NEDA staff involved with international funding agencies, and (b) staff of new CIDA projects last August 22-23. The objective of the workshops was to develop an appreciation of KM among the participants. This half-day KM briefing was similar to what Apin provided to CIDA last year.

Apin gave a second half-day KM session for officers of about 20 CIDA-sponsored projects in Davao City. The first one was delivered last August 9, 2006.

Apin gave a half-day KM session for officers of about 15 CIDA-sponsored projects. CIDA Philippines wanted to take the lead in KM among CIDA country offices. There were three internal KM champions in CIDA Philippines: Mr. Joe Goodings, Second Secretary of the Canadian Embassy; Lynette Corcino, a senior program officer, and Elsa Sumido, the general manager of the Philippines-Canada Cooperation Office, owned by Coffey International, the program management subcontractor of CIDA Philippines. Elsa sat in the KM training CCLFI provided earlier to the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Roundtable on KM in Development Institutions

Apin was invited to speak at the "Roundtable on Knowledge Management in Development Institutions" sponsored by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH. Most participants were NEDA managers and executives. He chose to present about "Having New Eyes or, New Paradigms for Excellence in the Knowledge Economy" to spur them to rethink the industrial paradigm which is being replaced by the knowledge economy paradigm. He noted that the Philippine Government is tracking gross domestic (fixed) capital formation but not human capital formation, yet the latter is responsible for, among others, the nearly $14 billion yearly remittance from OFWs. Other speakers were Daan Boom from ADB and Nileema Noble from UNDP.
